IMG Mailbox Pac In The Furries Dear IMG: What’s that in the June issue about Pac in Time? I have a game called Fury of the Furries that is the same as Pac in Time (only the coins are different I saw on the photo) Stijn Dermout via Internet • Here in the States, the publisher, Mindscape, decided to name the game Pac in Time. While in Europe, the European publisher Kallisto calls in Fury of the Furries. In any case, they are both the same. Check out the demo of Pac in Time in the Demos folder! It’s in the Hole! Dear IMG: I found a small mistake in the review of the Links-Course-Disk “Devil´s Island.” You said that Links Pro fails in determining distances. This is not true. In the overhead view press the Option-Key and then press the mouse button. Now the distance from the ball to the mouse pointer and from the mouse pointer to the hole is displayed - very nice !! Please mention this in a further issue of your nice mag. Jan Schliemann via Internet Lost in Space Quest Dear IMG: The other day I was caught by a sudden nostalgia for one of the very first adventure games I ever played with gusto, Sierra’s “Space Quest V”, and took good old Roger Wilco out of the shelf where he had been sleeping for some time. Bitter surprise! The game that used to play rather smoothly on my old LC refuses to launch on the Centris 61O I presently own. It has thus followed the path of “Space Quest I”, which I bought a couple of years ago, somewhere in Chicago, and was never able to operate, even on the LC, beyond its very beginning. Possibly the Macintosh versions of those games were conceived only for old machines. Possibly, too, I simply had (and have) no luck with them. But I would like to know whether other people went through the same experience, and, above all, whether any game of the long Wilco series properly updated for the new Macs now exists on the market. Guglielmo Biraghi • Unfortunately, Sierra Online almost never updates their older games to run on the newer Macs. I recently remember seeing a Sierra Online rep on America Online blaming Apple for constantly changing their hardware and software, thus the problems with some of the older Sierra games. What’s incomprehensible, is that Sierra refuses to create bug fixes for their older games. Go figure. Dark Forces Levels Dear IMG: I have recently found two web sites that contain Dark Forces homemade levels, which are of extremely good quality. I hope you will include them on one of your upcoming Cd’s. The two ftp addresses are as follows. Jason Carter via Internet ftp://ftp.amug.org/incoming/darkforces/ ftp://ftp.amug.org/incoming/darkforces2/ • It seems Dark Forces mania is upon us! We’ve included a few new Dark Forces levels on this month’s CD-ROM. Expect more in upcoming issues. Don’t Forget the Headphones Dear IMG: In your interesting article about external speakers, you forgot one thing. For about half the price of the cheapest speakers in the review, you can get a pair of good quality headphones. They give better sound quality than any of the speakers -- and your gaming won’t bother the neighbors! Petteri Sulonen via Internet And Don’t Forget Colony Either Dear IMG: I enjoy your magazine on CD-ROM more than any other magazine I subscribe to. Most magazines last me an hour to maybe six hours of reading time, but when I got the April issue of IMG, I found myself reading, playing demos, rereading, and on and on for several weeks. Your demos and reviews are of immense value when deciding on what to spend your money. I had purchased Pathways Into Darkness some time ago, and never got beyond the first level, and had no intention of buying Marathon until I ran the demo of the IMG CD. I am truly hooked. But this brings me to my second point. Mudgeon on Games talks about the shooters, but DOOM was not the first. Remember The Colony, from Mindscape released back in 1988? It was a first-person, explore the underground colony, shoot the aliens, aim by putting the cross-hairs on them type of game. No texture maps, just geometric shapes. It will still play on a MacPlus with System 7, but not on a IIci. We have come a long way. Allen Wold - Durham, North Carolina Letters to IMG.
